Beauty Influencers

The Dark Side Diva’s New Face

By now you all know my love of both high end and drug store makeup, especially foundations. Well I have rediscovered a new/old product that I simply adore! Several years ago I worked for Lancome when they launched the Teint Idole line. At the time I was hooked on their Photogenic foundation, which I still love to this day. The TI was ok for my skin, a little lighter coverage than I would have liked and, by the end of the day my face was a little shiny. By the time they came out with the TI Ultra Wear version, I had moved on to other beauty pursuits. But after seeing a couple high profile beauty influencers using it, I decided to give it a try. TI Ultra Wear claims to be a long-wearing, 24-hour foundation — claims that get me every time. Seriously. Who in this galaxy wears their make up for a full 24 hours? I decided to try it with the new Fenty Beauty Invisimatte Blotting Powder and Morphe’s Continous Setting Spray. Here are my thoughts…

I got the TI Ultra in shade 110C Ivoire, which is the third lightest shade and it’s a perfect match for my skin tone. It blends beautifully and covers all my pores and redness. It was very comfortable to wear and didn’t transfer. The Fenty powder set the foundation nicely, is completely translucent and undetectable. It didn’t cake or settle in my fine lines and pores. It does come with a flat puff, but I prefer to use a big powder brush, so I use one from IT Cosmetics. I will certainly keep this powder in my bag at all times. I finished with the Morphe Continuous Setting Spray. This product is a dream! It’s a fine mist that comfortably sets your face and doesn’t drench certain parts of it. It’s also the kind of spray that you can use several times throughout the day if needed and won’t ruin your makeup. And it doesn’t have that toxic smell like so many other setting sprays do.

This new threesome has made my skin bulletproof from shine, pores, caking and all the other unpleasantries that can happen during the day. Recommend trying this trio I do!

Luxury Scent Box Perfume Subscription

This week the blog is taking a slightly different direction. Yes, it’s still beauty related and it’s about another monthly subscription box. But this time it’s fragrance. I’ve been wanting to expand my perfume collection, but not at $75-100 a bottle. And in all honesty, it’s a bottle that I’ll probably never finish. I saw my friend Amie (aka TheDeepSouthDarlin) talking about this on YouTube and I was hooked.

Here are the sweet-smelling deets:

The website is very easy to use. You begin with a short survey of what types of scents you’re looking for. Then create an account/profile and add your fragrance of choice to your monthly calendar. In about a week you’ll receive your goods.

My first choice was Bvlgari Mon Jasmine Noir Eau De Parfum. Please don’t think me a snob, but having worked years in the cosmetic/fragrance department I wanted something different. If I have to smell Marc Jacob’s Daisy, D&G Light Blue or, God forbid, Clinique’s Happy I will shatter every one of those bottles with my light sabre.

Every month members receive 9ml of a different spray fragrance, which is approximately a 30-day supply. Your initial purchase also includes a convenient, travel-sized reusable case, and a velvet pouch. There is a large selection of designer fragrances, which includes both men’s and women’s fragrances, but you have to choose which one you wish to receive monthly. The cost of the basic monthly subscription is $15 and includes s/h or $18 for the “Premium” fragrances, which is what I went for. Your first box is 50% off with the code “LuxuryScentBox”, so this smart shopping Diva got hers for just $9. Members also receive a new reusable case each quarter.

No contracts. No commitments. Month to month. And free shipping and handling. Luxury Scent Box is an easy, inexpensive and fun way to try a different type of subscription box. Let’s face it, how many sheet masks and mini mascaras does a Diva really need?

Shaaanxo 18 Color Eye Shadow & Lipstick Palette

Shannon Harris, known to her devotees as Shaaanxo, is a YouTube beauty vlogger superstar from New Zealand who uploads awesome, original content roughly 2-3 times per week. She has over 3 million followers and is one of the top global beauty influencers. Shannon hand-picked each of the shades in this collaboration with bh cosmetics.

For a mere $14.50 you get 9 very wearable neutral eyeshadows and 9 lip colors in neutral, plum and peachy shades. I wasn’t sure what to expect, mainly because the cost is so affordable. But I was very pleasantly surprised at how versatile this palette is! The palette is dual sided, which I appreciate because nothing sets my Dark Side off more than a palette that is designed so the eyeshadows mingle with the lipsticks.

The eyeshadows are quite pigmented and blend out very easily. There is some fallout, but as I’ve stated before, I will accept some minor fallout in exchange for easy blendability. There are no crazy or trendy colors so you can easily go from a casual to dressy look. The lip colors are glossy and beautiful. My only minor issue with this item is that the lip colors are not as long-lasting as I’d like. I have to reapply the color several times during my day. Be sure to use a lip brush to apply because putting lip color on with your fingers is just wrong and should be punishable by law. The formulas make your lips feels soft and are not drying at all. When I first opened up the palette I noticed some droplets on the lip colors.  But bh cosmetics assures you that the droplets are just natural oils that occur and they did disappear as I used the product.

I will be able to create hundreds of looks with this beautiful, versatile, affordable palette. And bh cosmetics are all vegan, gluten and cruelty free. Another win-win-win! So support your local, or in this case non-local, YT vlogger and try Shannon’s palette. Enjoy it you will!

Dermacol Makeup Cover dermacol

Retails for:  $34.95 for 30g

Available at:  dermacolcosmetics.com

As someone who likes a matte, full-coverage foundation, I’m always on the lookout for new and innovative products. When I saw an internet ad for the “World’s Best Foundation” you bet I clicked on it!  Dermacol Makeup Cover claims to be a waterproof, hypoallergenic, SPF 30, extreme full-cover foundation.  It was in my shopping cart within seconds. I purchased the lightest shade, 207.

PROS:  Dermacol says this foundation will cover tattoos, blemishes, birthmarks, dark spots, etc. I only need it to cover large pores, a few fine lines, and discolorations. And boy did it ever! It applies best for me with a damp beauty blender.  A foundation brush left the coverage streaky and uneven.  I did use a very light second coat on my nose and cheeks, where 99% of my problem areas exist. I then used my usual setting powders and sprays and went on my way.  Nearly 8 hours later, my face hadn’t moved!  No redness or oily spots came through and the product didn’t break up on my face.

CONS:  There are some drawbacks.  There are multiple sites (Facebook, Instagram, Ebay, Wish, and Amazon) selling knockoff versions. If it says $5, $8 and you think it’s too good to be true, it’s because it is.  Read some reviews on “knockoff Dermacol” and if you still want to put that on your face, best wishes. The real product sells for $34.95 for a 30 gram tube.  Yes, it’s costly but this tube will last quite a while as you only need a tiny bit of product.

There are only 13 shades to choose from, so I’m not very confident about how the shades range. I should have gotten shade 208 rather than 207, but it’s tricky ordering foundation online. The deepest color didn’t look that deep to me, but that’s just my honest opinion.

dermacol faceI ordered my authentic Dermacol from the Dermacol Instagram site.  It took me straight to their web page and ordering was very easy.  I do believe that shades 207 and 208 are back ordered right now and have a 10 day wait.  My order arrived in less than 2 weeks.  I have used this as a full-face foundation, mixed in with lighter coverage foundations, and as a concealer and have been very pleased every time.

Amazing product this is and highly recommend it I do!
