DS Diva’s Luxury Christmas List

Now that we are officially in the holiday season, it’s time to think about gifts.  Because I am also turning 50 two days after Christmas, I’m thinking luxury gifts—high-end, high-cost, prestige goodies.  A girl can dream, right? Here are some of my to die for products.

Natasha Denona Sunset Palette (retails for $129)

I used to think that spending this much for eyeshadow was downright criminal. But then a couple weeks ago I was able to see this beauty in person and swatch the colors. I’ve never felt anything like it. The creamy, easy to blend, rich, beautiful colors are completely out of this world! I applied a little at the store with a Q tip and it looked unbelievable. The colors in the Sunset palette range from coppers, nudes, browns, oranges, reds, golds. The Lila palette is a close second, but I prefer these shades to Lila’s purples and plums. You truly need to see and feel this beauty to appreciate it and understand the high price tag.

LA MER Soft Fluid Long Wear Foundation (retails for $110)

la mre

I’ve had an obsession with LA MER for years.  Formulated with their world famous “Miracle Broth”, this foundation claims to soften lines and wrinkles, plump skin with hydration, energize and soothe while also making pores and imperfections disappear.  The formula has SPF 20 and two of the most beautiful, light shades that I’m positive would match my ultra-fair, winter complexion.  I’ve been blessed with a sample of LA MER’s Moisturizing Soft Cream and I’m only using it a couple times a week so I can make it last as long as humanly possible.  Despite the limited use, I’ve  noticed a nice change in my skin – smoother, not as red and my makeup looks lovely on the days I’m using it. I can only imagine that adding the foundation to my  daily routine would only make this 50 year old look a little younger!

Tom Ford Lip Color in Blush Nude (retails for $54)

tom ford

Visions of this lip color have been dancing in my head since I saw Jaclyn Hill use it on her YouTube channel. Then I saw my friend pull it out of her handbag. It is the perfect combination of nude, peach and pink, that would coordinate with any eye look you create, dramatic or casual. IMO, it is the epitome of all nude lipsticks.  It took everything in my being not to ask my friend if I could use it. But I did get to hold it, and gracefully handed it back.

Jo Malone Wood Sage and Sea Salt Cologne (retails for $135)

jo malone

Imagine sitting in the woods with a beautiful shore of crashing waves in front of you. That’s the feeling I got the first and only time I’ve smelled this incredible fragrance.  I sprayed it quickly on me, and it lasted all day. The collection also includes a candle, hand wash and body cream. Since this is my luxury wish list, I’m adding  those to this list too, just in case anyone is feeling extra generous ;)

I could go on for days, but these are the ultimate luxuries that I dream about. They can all be found at Sephora, Neiman Marcus, and Nordstrom. I’ve been a very good Dark Lord this year so I’m putting them on my list to Santa. Merry Christmas everyone! I hope you find your dream items under your tree!

Anastasia Beverly Hills Prism Eye Shadow Palette

Over the summer of 2017 you couldn’t get away from the ABH subculture controversy. I’m not going into that, or the fact that I just might be the only person in this galaxy who is not impressed with the Modern Renaissance palette. I was however, impressed with the limited edition, Holiday 2017 Prism palette. It’s a truly gorgeous, 14 shade collection of what I would call very wearable neutrals, metallics and a few pops of color.

The shades are very pigmented and it’s easy to blend out the colors. I’ve created several beautiful looks using them both wet and dry. There is some kickback but if you use a light hand it’s not bothersome. A couple colors had some tiny fallout, but for easy blending and gorgeous colors I can tolerate that. While at first I thought I was only going to be able to create dressy looks, I’ve been able to come up with a lot of very neutral, daytime looks. And it actually comes with a very nice, double-ended eye shadow brush that can be used with other products. It’s not just an afterthought. I have used it with my ColourPop shadows and it blends them out nicely as well.

I consider ABH to be one of the classier prestige lines on the market today. I highly recommend the Prism palette. At $42 it’s about the same price as other palettes that you can find at Sephora, but this one is limited edition so it won’t be around for long. Pick it up while you can!

Huda Beauty Desert Dusk Eyeshadow Palette

Retails for: $65

Available at: www.shophudabeauty.com

Have you ever had a cosmetic item so beautiful that you didn’t want to use it? I can honestly say that, until I owned this Huda Beauty palette, the answer was no! From the presentation to the actual colors, this Desert Dusk palette is simply gorgeous.

PROS:  The colors in this palette can best be described as exotic and unbelievably dynamic. They range in shades of purples, coppers, pinks, and nudes. There are 18 shades in various formulas–mattes, pearls, duochromes and even a pure glitter. They can all be layered in numerous ways to create a very dramatic look or even a lighter, more day-friendly look. The formulas are very pigmented, easy to blend, and I haven’t gotten much fallout at all. The glitter and duochromes are best applied wet or with a very short, stiff eye shadow brush. Please don’t use Dollar Store brushes with this palette. They will ruin the colors and that would be heartbreaking.

CONS:  At $65 this is a more costly eyeshadow palette. The Huda Beauty line tends to run a bit higher priced, but the quality is unmatched.

This isn’t your everyday palette and I’d go so far as to say if you’re a beauty beginner, it might not be for you. If you appreciate rich, deep colors and exotic formulas then this palette is for you and it will be beauty bucks well spent. Not to mention it will look absolutely stunning on your vanity table! Trust me on this!

Shaaanxo 18 Color Eye Shadow & Lipstick Palette

Shannon Harris, known to her devotees as Shaaanxo, is a YouTube beauty vlogger superstar from New Zealand who uploads awesome, original content roughly 2-3 times per week. She has over 3 million followers and is one of the top global beauty influencers. Shannon hand-picked each of the shades in this collaboration with bh cosmetics.

For a mere $14.50 you get 9 very wearable neutral eyeshadows and 9 lip colors in neutral, plum and peachy shades. I wasn’t sure what to expect, mainly because the cost is so affordable. But I was very pleasantly surprised at how versatile this palette is! The palette is dual sided, which I appreciate because nothing sets my Dark Side off more than a palette that is designed so the eyeshadows mingle with the lipsticks.

The eyeshadows are quite pigmented and blend out very easily. There is some fallout, but as I’ve stated before, I will accept some minor fallout in exchange for easy blendability. There are no crazy or trendy colors so you can easily go from a casual to dressy look. The lip colors are glossy and beautiful. My only minor issue with this item is that the lip colors are not as long-lasting as I’d like. I have to reapply the color several times during my day. Be sure to use a lip brush to apply because putting lip color on with your fingers is just wrong and should be punishable by law. The formulas make your lips feels soft and are not drying at all. When I first opened up the palette I noticed some droplets on the lip colors.  But bh cosmetics assures you that the droplets are just natural oils that occur and they did disappear as I used the product.

I will be able to create hundreds of looks with this beautiful, versatile, affordable palette. And bh cosmetics are all vegan, gluten and cruelty free. Another win-win-win! So support your local, or in this case non-local, YT vlogger and try Shannon’s palette. Enjoy it you will!

Morphe x Jaclyn Hill Eyeshadow Palette

YouTube beauty vloggers and Instagram beauty influencers are a polarizing group. Weekly gossip and drama seem to follow the big ones religiously. This past weekend, drama occurred with Jaclyn Hill and Kathleen Lights. I am not here to pass judgement or comment on the events that occurred. I am simply going to review Jaclyn’s highly-awaited collaboration with Morphe.

The Jaclyn Hill eye shadow palette was released with great fanfare. It sold out in under an hour the first two times it was released.  Unfortunately I missed out both times.  However the third time was a charm! After continuously refreshing the site for a solid two minutes, placing my order and waiting patiently in checkout, this beauty was finally mine!

This is my second Morphe palette. I won the 35F in an IG contest in February and was very impressed. Typical palettes run in the low $20 range and arrive in a black plastic holder. The Jacklyn Hill palette consists of 35 shadows in a variety of finishes – mattes, shimmers and frosts, all in a new formula that Jaclyn helped create with Morphe.

morphe.pngDiva’s First Impressions: The colors are absolutely gorgeous and have fantastic names such as “Pukey” (yes, a baby puke brown), “Hunts” (a ketchup-colored yet very wearable red) and “Pool Party” (a beyond gorgeous blue-teal color). I have worn this multiple times and I love it!  While I would not consider the line prestige or high end, the shadows are extremely pigmented, blend like a dream and have very little fall out.

Minor Concerns: This palette comes in a heavy white cardboard holder, not the usual black plastic. A white plastic holder would make the palette look even classier.  However a different holder probably would have increased the price to the low/mid $40 range. Although $38 is a considerable price hike for Morphe, it is still very reasonable for a 35-shadow palette.

I can understand that with the recent scandal, you may not want to purchase the Morphe x Jaclyn Hill eye shadow palette. However, there are online rumors that it may not be re-released.  The variety of colors will make this a stand out in your beauty collection. It will instantly become your go-to palette. From casual to dressy and everything in between, Jaclyn has you covered for any look you want to create.  And give it 5 stars I do!
